Making Porn: The starting place

Shooting porn is about 5% action, 95% everything else. The most interesting fact about shooting porn is that the porn itself, while 100% the reason someone might buy your product, is 0% the reason they might become interested in buying your product. That doesn't make a ton of sense when you first think about it, but with experience you learn that's the case pretty quickly. My wake up call came pretty early on when I used to tweet hot girls from my scenes, and lose followers. I eventually came to understand why. Put simply, anyone can find hot nakedness on the internet faster, and more abundantly than anything I could possibly produce. So basically, "yawn... next". Now I know. Anyway...

If you're a porn producer, or thinking about becoming one, there are some really important things you need to think about right away. Considering how much it costs to shoot just a single scene, you really want to start getting this right pretty early on. Here are some things to think about, to get your brain going in the right direction:

What will you shoot? Whether it's boy/girl, girl/girl, boy/boy (or any combination and variation of such), what's your angle? Not camera angle - what's your content angle? Young guy, meets older woman and fucks her hard. Or, young guy, meets older woman and SHE fucks HIM hard. There's a huge difference between the two. Do you know your formula?

How will you shoot it? Do you have a good camera? Do you have lights? Do you have a place to shoot? You know 3 people who want to star in your videos - where will you get the next 3, 4, 5, 10, etc.?

What then? Are you an editor? Do you know how to colour correct video footage? Do you know what white balance is? Do you know the difference between 1080p and 4K uhd video cameras and footage? What format will your export your videos? Why?

What about your website? Do you know anything about HTML, CSS, PHP? If not, do you know someone who does? And if you do, how should your website be designed to get potential members interested in joining?

The list goes on, and we haven't even spoken to one potential member yet. There's a lot to consider. I learned the hard way (pun both intended and not) and I'm still learning, but now I make better porn. Not the best (yet), but now its at least pro quality, which took a while to get to. Had some help - you'll need some as well. The business of porn is very different from the idea of porn. Hot guys and hot girls naked and fucking is the least important and easiest part of the process. Sounds backwards, I know. Welcome to the world of all the shit you didn't know. I've been living there a long time now, myself, so don't feel bad.

I'll post more about producing your content, and as I learn more, I'll keep talking about it. A lot of it is common sense once you know, but not necessarily intuitive when you don't.

Stay tuned.
