The "Hard" part of shooting porn

When shooting a porn scene there's only one really important thing that you have to get right. You can have so-so lighting, not-perfect camera angles, average girl but for it all to work, you need an erection. Same goes for the best lighting, most awesome camera angles and the porn star of your dreams. Dude better get hard, or ... zilch. Since it isn't biologically possible to just say, "Hey dick... hard in 3, 2, 1... now" whilst thinking about your tax returns and expect to get an erection on queue, you need a plan. Good news is, biology does have some answers.

Pills. My least favourite way, but a way nonetheless. I've used them a couple times. I thought I needed them. At the time, maybe I did, but likely not. The pressure of doing the performing, directing and producing the scenes caused me to have a couple issues shooting some of the earlier scenes. The pills helped, but that was just me avoiding the real solution and taking the easy way. I tried it - now I know. I don't use them any more, but some do. Personal choice.

Routine. This is better than pills, but sometimes less "scientifically sound". Some porn performers have a girl in mind and they "go there" whenever they need to get hard. That high-school sweetheart, that one night stand or the stripper from that place your friends took you. They go find a quiet corner and think about her to get ready. That's never gotten me out of a jam, but some swear by it. Good trick if you can do it.

Enjoyment. This is my preferred method. Shoot porn I enjoy to watch. Shoot with girls I enjoy shooting with. Work with crew who enjoy the process and don't keep checking their watches and staring at me to "hurry it up". If everyone is having fun and enjoying themselves staying in the mood once things get rolling is much easier.

Foreplay. I've also found the best scenes I've ever shot were when we had foreplay as part of the scene. I mean, on her, before she gets to me. If she's in the mood by the time the blowjob starts, the heat is on, so to speak. That keeps things rolling (in the hay, and on the set).

Those aren't really things you can't figure out for yourself. However, when there's a room full of people, bright lights and a camera, your head-space changes. The real trick, is to ignore all that, and enjoy her (or him, or them and in whatever configuration suits you). Then, you're sure to have a good time, on or off camera.
